Must assess the student’s
competence in the teaching process: the ability to identify
clients’ learning needs to prepare a teaching plan that
outlines the objectives, content and methodology to be used
for the brief teaching episode, to present the material in a
live situation and to evaluate the effectiveness of the
client teaching episode. The TPE measures the student’s
ability to apply nursing theory and teaching-learning
theories at the beginning professional level of
competence.
Must be
enrolled in Excelsior College (formerly Regents College) BSN
program. You should complete Health Support A and B as
well as Health Restoration I and II.
Use diagnostic
reasoning to identify a nursing diagnosis related to an
actual or potential health problem that requires the client
be provided with information designed to support and to
restore health.
Must be in
enrolled in Excelsior College. Request the application
for the TPE from Excelsior College, complete it and turn it
in. Due to the large number of students in the program,
the waiting period for clinicals will fluctuate.
