Medical Field Requirements

Excelsior College accepts students who meet one of the following qualifications. If your position is not listed, call Excelsior College Admissions Office at 1-800-841-6335 to see if you qualify.

LPN/LVN Paramedic Military Service Corpsman Licensed, Certified or Registered Midwife One who has completed 50% or more of the clinical training portions of an RN education program Respiratory Therapist Chiropractor Physician's Assistant Certified Surgical Techs* AAMA Certified Medical Assistant* Licensed Psychiatric tech in AR, KS & CO ONLY

Important Notes *Effective September 1, 2004: Excelsior College will no longer accept CMAs or Surgical Techs into the nursing program. If a student is planning to gain admission to the nursing program using CMA or Surgical Tech credentials they must submit an undergraduate application (with verifying documentation) by September 1, 2004. If the prospective student is accepted for admission the student must enroll with the College by November 1, 2004. VERY IMPORTANT If you are earning your BSN Degree through Excelsior College and DO NOT PLAN TO GRADUATE before December 31, 2004, you should NOT take Health Support A or Professional Nursing: Issues and Concepts. These exams are being replaced. Please begin with another BSN exam. California Residents: The California Board of Nursing will not accept ADN degrees from Excelsior College School of Nursing students who enrolled on or after December 6, 2003. Effective Immediately: Non-RNs are no longer accepted into the Excelsior BSN program. To be accepted in the program, a student must complete the Excelsior associate degree program first, then pass the NCLEX to receive RN certification. Effective September 3, 2003, the Basic and Intermediate EMT certification will not meet Excelsior College’s admission requirements. After that date, you must hold a Paramedic level certification in order to be admitted. Alabama State Board evaluates Excelsior College graduates on an individual basis. Georgia State Board only accept Excelsior College graduates through reciprocity. Louisiana, Washington, Florida, and Rhode Island State Boards accept all LPN's. All others should contact your state board for current regulations. Illinois State Board does not recognize Excelsior College ASN degrees, but does recognize Excelsior College BSN degrees.
