Focuses on the
competencies related to the roles of provider of care,
leader, member of profession, and collaborator; clinical
decision making and relating with others are integrated
throughout the examination. To test the knowledge and skills
in the designated dimensions of professional practice, this
examination uses videotaped simulations that depict clinical
problems and ethical dilemmas the professional nurse is
likely to encounter in practice. Student must assume the
role of the BSN portrayed on the videotape and respond to
the situation presented by answering a series of critical
elements. The Member of Profession exam tests the
student’s ability to plan and engage in a professional
activity, prepare a scholarly paper, and participate in a
group discussion. Students complete most dimension
requirements in their home communities prior to scheduling
the remaining video-simulation.
Must be
enrolled in the BSN degree program Must have met all
other nursing requirements. Must be within nine (9)
credits of finishing the Gen. Ed. requirements The
Member of Profession dimension may be completed once
Professional Strategies exam has been completed.
Must demonstrate
that the student has integrated the knowledge, attitudes,
values and perspectives of the baccalaureate-prepared nurse
and is able to apply this knowledge in a wide variety of
situations.
Must be in
enrolled in Excelsior College (formerly Regents
College). Request the application for the PRPE from
Excelsior College, complete it and turn it in. Due to the
large number of students in the program, the waiting period
for clinicals will fluctuate.
